I went with friends tonight to see Casino Royale, the latest Bond movie. It must be decades since I last saw Bond — I don’t even recall which one it might have been, or anything about it.
Lots of people seem to have expressed high opinions about this movie, and it was certainly an acceptable way to spend a couple of hours. It had all the expected elements: car chases, explosions, money, women, bad guys. Bond also seemed to do an awful lot of running: one foot chase after another. They were fun though, especially the first one, where the guy he was chasing demonstrated remarkable athletic abilities.
The plot was as you’d expect: full of twists and double-crosses. The dialogue, especially the witty banter, was not a strong point.
As movies go, it’s not bad. There are plenty of better movies, but there are also a great many less entertaining.
