The puppies are now 6 months old. They spent the day at the vet clinic today. Routine blood tests preceded their desexing operation. Now they’re home, feeling pretty sorry for themselves, mainly sleeping, or licking their wounds.
Apart from the rather breathtaking amount of the bill, the tricky thing is that they need 1 to 3 days house rest, followed by leash exercise only for the next 5 days for Oshi and 7 days for Sasha. With 3 cats in the house it may be tricky to keep the dogs from their normal fairly free access to the garden.
What’s more, although we have been intensively training Sasha not to chase the cats (as yet unsuccessful), she’s likely to dash off the moment she hears a cat jump down from a bed or chair.
Olive, the oldest cat, seems strangely drawn to the puppies. She’s sitting in one of their beds only a metre or so away from the two dogs, looking inscrutable, just keeping an eye on them.
And on another note: by sheer coincidence this is the anniversary of our Harriette’s passing last year. She was a fox terrier who came to live with us at the age of 6. Though her health was failing for a couple of years towards the end, she shared 10 happy years with us.
