In a video called A Pivotal Role in the Household a paralysed woman uses her computer and the web via a switch taped to her cheek. She types quicker than I do (not soooo hard to do).
I came to this and three other extraordinarily interesting videos courtesy of the most wonderful Roger Johansson:
I recently came across AssistiveWare videos on computer accessibility, a number of videos that show how people with various disabilities use assistive technology with their computers.
What is especially good with these videos is that they don’t only show people using screen readers or other assistive technology for people who are visually impaired. Not that there is anything wrong with showing how screen readers work, but many aren’t aware that Web accessibility is about more than visually impaired people.
This is the kind of video you should show to any clients who think accessibility doesn’t matter for their site. And, of course, the videos are an excellent reminder of how diverse we all can be in how we use our computers and the Internet.
