When I’m out and about downtown, admittedly not so often these days, I get quite annoyed that I have to either drop stuff I’d normally recycle into a rubbish bin, or carry it round with me till I get home. That includes the odd glass or plastic bottle of orange juice, and the piles of junk mail that accumulate in my PO box.
Ditto for trips to the beach, or when walking the dogs.
But now we’re to get some recycling bins. Wellington to Help Lead Recycling Revolution:
Up to 80 recycling bins are to be located in busy parts of central Wellington by the Council as part of an initiative, funded by the Ministry for the Environment, announced today. …
The project will focus on recovering glass, plastic and metal containers but there will also be paper recycling bins located in strategic areas. …
Locations include several places I commonly visit:
- Oriental Parade
- Courtenay Place
- Mt Victoria lookout.
… The trial will be closely monitored and then reviewed in 2009/10. The Council will conduct ongoing contamination sampling to ensure the recycling bins are being used properly. If contamination rates are too high (over 10%), the Council will look to increase public awareness to ensure the public properly separates waste.
