Shopping isn’t really my thing, except maybe for technology. But there’s one local shop whose threshhold I seem to cross quite regularly — Melting Perfection Chocolatier:
Born in Czech Republic, Jiri (George) Havlik says establishing Melting Perfection has been a childhood dream come true.
I happened to be in there today, and Jiri was kind enough to allow me to take a quick photo for my blog. The shop’s tiny. Today, apart from me, there were 3 adults and 2 small children buying chocolate and the room was overflowing.
Hand-crafted chocolates are displayed behind a glass counter and on shelves on the wall, row after row, in all shapes and sizes. Buy them singly or in a pick-and-mix assortment, in gift boxes or a plain brown paper bag.
My favourites are the dark chocolate ‘mouse’ lollipops and the creme de menthe filled chocolates. The lollipops are a nicely defined single item that help me keep my chocolate addiction from running rampant.
Though Jiri also told me one day that our bodies don’t crave more chocolate so much if what we eat is of high quality. I don’t recall exactly how that works… I do find that one lollipop suffices for my daily treat.
Jiri always welcomes me with a cheerful hello, and if things aren’t too busy we may chat a little about chocolate, or the weather, or the Czech Republic.
I realise as I write this that apart from the stunningly delicious chocolate and the friendly service, I enjoy the shop because it does one thing, and it does it well. What they sell is chocolate. They don’t dilute the experience by selling knick-knacks, or drinks or other confectionery. They specialise in what they craft. They focus, and the result is, well, melting perfection.
