The new KnowIT WordPress series ebooks are practical, helpful entry ways into understanding and working with WordPress websites.
Web developers are quite capable of sifting through hundreds of pages in the extremely comprehensive WordPress Codex, or searching the hundreds of thousands of Forum posts to winkle out what they need to know.
But their clients are another matter. As busy people they want quick, practical answers to questions such as
How is it put together? and
How do I back up my website?.
The KnowIT WordPress series
The KnowIT WordPress series are short, focused ebooks written for the clients of web developers. Each ebook takes a single, practical topic of concern to the operator of a WordPress website and explains it, with screenshots.
The first 2 books are available now:
- How to backup your WordPress website (US$4.75)
- Learn how to quickly and easily back up all of a WordPress website. Don’t discover too late that you’ve lost all the Posts, images or Theme files because you didn’t really backup everything.
- How WordPress is put together (free)
- Understand how a WordPress website is put together. Come to grips with the various folders you see with your FTP software, and what the database is about. See how Themes fit in, and how much difference a theme can make.
These books are written for web developers who are new to WordPress, and for the clients of web developers who set up WordPress websites for them. They refer to version 2.8 of WordPress.
More books are on the way too, just as soon as I can write them.
For website operators
These books don’t explain how to make themes or write plugins; instead they inform the users of WordPress sites.
The underlying assumption is that someone else has installed and set up WordPress; the website operator just wants to get on with using it.
Web developers save time
If you’re a web developer making WordPress sites for clients, then you need good documentation to give those clients. The KnowIT WordPress series aims to fill that gap, making your job easier.
Why spend countless hours creating Help files and handling client calls for Help when you can just provide them with a carefully crafted ebook that costs less than a cup of coffee? In fact, it may even be free.
Just include the ebooks in your quote for the site. Your clients will love you for it.
About the author (that’s me)
I have 3 decades experience of teaching, training and writing. I specialise in writing clear, straightforward instructions in plain language. See my About the Author page.
I’m a WordPress user and enthusiast, who saw a need for plain language documentation for busy website operators, so I did something about it.
These books differ from the book I co-authored 3 years ago with Maria Langer, WordPress 2 Visual Quickstart Guide, because they are small and tightly focused. And they explain the current version of WordPress: version 2.8.
Visit the KnowIT Bookstore to download a free copy of How WordPress is put together. If you like it, buy How to backup your WordPress website. It costs less than a coffee and cake.
Meanwhile … I’m already working on the next book in the series.
