At 2 am today the clocks flicked forward to 3 am, as Daylight Savings takes effect in New Zealand for another 6 months.
That was too early for me to be up and about, but after breakfast I checked in on all my blogs to make sure they had updated with the correct time.
I found one of my test blogs was not using the best setting. The screenshot shows it was set to
UTC +12:00, but with Summertime in effect our timezone is in fact
UTC +13:00. My test blog was now running one hour off.
To correct it automatically I needed to set the blog to a city in the same Timezone as me.
Check and correct
To check and correct your WordPress blog, first make sure you’ve updated to the latest version. I think the automatic Daylight Savings adjustment came in around version 2.8. Then:
- Log in to your Blog’s Dashboard and click the
Settings > Generallink. The General Settings page appears.
- Scroll down until you see the
- From the drop-down menu choose a city in the same timezone as you. I’m in Wellington, New Zealand and find it slightly irritating that I have to choose Auckland, but I’ll get over it.
- Click the
Save Changesbutton near the bottom of the page. If appropriate, the time set for your blog will be updated.
After updating my blog I now see some helpful messages about Daylight Savings and Standard time.
Whether your location observes Daylight Savings or not, this is a good time to check the Timezone setting on your WordPress blog. Is it set to a suitable city?
