I spent a couple of days at our new property up at Waikawa Beach. While we wait for our bach to be built the dogs and I stay in a tiny cabin.
My favourite time to take the dogs to the nearby beach for a walk is around dawn. And then again near dusk.
It’s a huge gently sloping beach, where the full tide leave a decent sized strip of sand before the dunes and the low tide creates a vast area for walking and exploration.
To the southwest is Kapiti Island, sometimes visible, sometimes not.
On our morning walk the other day at dawn we were alone on the beach, apart from a few gulls in the distance. The day dawned crisp with a good frost and tendrils of mist clinging to the ground between the dunes. The sky was mainly clear, the air was clean and fresh.
The day, the place, filled me with optimism, hope and delight.
