Today there are winds between 50 and 85 Kph from the West, and that means you have to be extra dedicated to try to walk on the west coast beach by our bach. That’s one reason why I took the dogs to Levin instead where there’s a wonderful off-leash park down near Lake Horowhenua.
Head west down Queen Street and almost at the end is Kowhai Park off-leash area on the left.
This very large park is a mix of groups of mature trees and large open areas of grass. There are several dispensers for free poop bags and a few special bins for dog poop, including a couple strategically placed far enough in on the walk to be useful, benches and tables, and even a special doggy drinking fountain by the entrance.
It’s a fantastic place to take dogs for a walk, with plenty of space, sun and shade, beautiful trees, well-formed gravelled paths and actual thought about what dogs and their owners need. And either Levin wasn’t as windy as the beach or the park was quite sheltered.
Sasha in particular was thrilled to be able to have a good run today.
