01 November 2014: this is going to be a bit of a month. I’ve decided that after a long lull in blogging, a period where I just had nothing to say, that I want to post something to this blog every day. It may be short, and probably will be, or it may be long.
This month too, is when my partner Deb and I start training. By the middle of next year we need to be able to walk around 25 Km per day for 5 days in a row. That’s about a half marathon length.
Well, since next year is a significant birthday for me, we’re going to travel a bit later in the year.
We intend to visit north west Spain and walk around 100 Km of the Camino de Santiago.
We’ll do it as a self-guided tour with Zephyr, a tour company I’ve long had my eye on. The tour goes for 7 days (5 walking) & 6 nights.
The company handle hotel reservations, getting our bags from one place to another and providing us with detailed maps and useful information. They’re also there in case of emergency.
Our next steps are to start training for that intense walking, to gather more information, work out exactly when we want to travel and to arrange flights. In my case, it also means brushing up on the small amount of Spanish I learned a number of years ago and renewing my passports.
Along with the walk we hope to dip into Portugal where I’ve long wanted to go and maybe Dublin where there are family connections.
I last visited Spain decades ago, and loved it in spite of all our baggage being stolen. Deb has never been there.
I feel quite excited about this. Esso!
