Later this year we’re travelling to Spain so we’re learning a bit of Spanish. I learned some Spanish decades ago, and while I can gain quite a lot of meaning from things I read, listening is a lot harder.
Today I took a look at the Spanish newspaper called El País and realised I could have my Mac read items to me.
That was a disaster. My Mac read the Spanish in the voice Tessa as though it were English. It was a horrible mangled mess. Tessa is a South African voice that appeals to me more than the UK, Australian or US options.
Not one to give up though, I wondered what would happen if I downloaded a Spanish voice: Monica.
Monica’s reading of the Spanish text was perfect, which isn’t that surprising really, but I thought it would be harder to achieve.
Now what’s amusing is having Monica read English language text aloud. Give different voices a try.
