This was a post I wrote in my journal rather than my blog, but I want to include it here. I took a lot of photos from the car each day in Spain while we were speeding along. Some of them on these days were attempts to capture the tunnel signs, but I had no luck.
06 September 2015: Some of the tunnels we drove through in the last couple of days were quite long. One was a couple of kilometres, another 4 Km. You know how long it is because there’s always a sign before the entrance that tells you the tunnel’s name and length.
I relive last year’s fantastic holiday by bringing posts over from the trip blog. This doesn’t aim to be identical to the trip blog, but an improvement, with text edits and more / better photos. Find all these posts under the tag: Spain2015.
Deb did a heroic drive today. Yesterday evening, settled in our hotel only about 90 Km from Las Médulas [Casa Rural La Cabrera in Robles Laciana], I discovered I’d lost my iPad. It seemed reasonable to think it was at the previous night’s hotel some 300 Km away. I contacted them by email several times and eventually they rang me. We had a totally unproductive call in Spanish, but I mentioned iPad several times and they said Si so we concluded they had indeed located it. So wonderful Deb drove us back 300 Km then on a further 300 or 400 Km to tonight’s hotel near Las Médulas. She didn’t even complain at all.
It’s been a long day. We breakfasted at dawn, 0800. For the Spanish I think that’s the middle of the night. Dinner here in Spain starts at sunset, 2100.
This hotel, Hotel O Palleiro do Pe do Forno, is even more remote than the last 2 nights. I’ve booked us in for an extra night so we can relax tomorrow, look at the goldmines and then head off to Santiago de Compostela on Tuesday, ready to meet the tour rep and prepare for our walk to start on Wednesday.
